If you burn hardwood and not evergreen woods you can use the charcoal ash in the soil to dilute the richness of the soil. Carbon is porus and acts like mini condominiums for microbes in your soil. As for whitefly use spent coffee grounds on surface of soil, they dont like it and you can try that experiment on a couple of infected plants as a comparison.

Remember you dont need a lot of exchange with cold air. Cold air is dense as it warms it expands. 1 exchange of air space per 24 hrs

For my much smaller house, now thinking about 60 or 100 litre plastic barrels. With off peak and variable price electricity makes sense to have a 500 W fish pond heater in each. Only gets to 34C maximum, but electrically safe consumer equipment. One other thing to ask is what's the worst that would happen if a barrel failed. On a concrete ground floor not that much. Now wondering what Canadians in Newfoundland do, if it's cloudy and damp the whole time. What's makes sense in GB is to run a dehumidifier so you get the latent heat and about 170% efficiency. Mid 20's to low 30's water isn't that useful which is what you might get with a solar pond in winter. You almost need radiators the size of the wall, or floor.

Interesting way to do it. I built a smokeless fire pit using one barrel inside another. It's a lot more work but it burns so efficiently and so hot that a grill grate on top can't survive a single burn without warping into a melted mess

Is there a way to make it even hotter? Do you know which temps would be needed to burn plastics as well? Would it Be possible to have some kind of forced air introduction, possibly even pure Oxygen and then at the output some filters? Altho you would need to somehow clean the filters after or if you use water, what has to be done to the water :S
